NDIS glossary

Plain-English definitions of common NDIS terms and acronyms.

Key terms

NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme. Australia's system for funding supports and services for people with permanent and significant disability.

Plan management

A funding management option where a registered plan manager handles invoice processing, budget tracking, and NDIS portal claims on your behalf. Funded from a separate "Improved Life Choices" line item — no out-of-pocket cost.

NDIA

The National Disability Insurance Agency — the government body that administers the NDIS.

Support coordination

A funded support that helps you implement your plan, find providers, and coordinate services. Different to plan management — support coordinators help you use your plan; plan managers handle the money.

Improved Life Choices (ILC)

The funding category that pays for plan management. It is added to your plan separately and does not reduce your other funded supports.

Service agreement

A written agreement between you and a provider setting out what services will be delivered, at what cost, and under what terms.

Price guide / Support Catalogue

The NDIS pricing framework that sets maximum prices providers can charge for each support type. Plan managers must charge within these limits.

PRODA / myplace

The NDIS online portals. Your plan manager uses these to submit claims on your behalf.
